Think acupuncture is just needles? Think again.

Licensed Acupuncturists in the state of Texas do much more than stick you with needles. In the 4-year degree required to obtain the title, acupuncturists learn to master several tools to address your various health issues - whether it's a chronic condition, a sudden injury, just for prevention, or even for cosmetic purposes.

A first session typically starts with a thorough analysis of your history and body constitution. A treatment plan is then drawn, which may include:

-complex herbal prescriptions

-stimulation of a select combination of points with needles, laser or acupressure

-ear needles or ear magnets (auriculotherapy)

-gua sha, cupping, tui-na, qi-gong, and/or food therapy

These modalities are chosen based on the experience and training of the physician, with your personal health needs and goals in mind.

There is nothing magical or miraculous about acupuncture! The stimulation of very specific points has been shown in recent research to trigger the release of various neurotransmitters and substances your body naturally produces on its own, to accelerate recovery, and boost energy and immunity. Acupuncture stimulates your body's natural abilities for healing.

In some people, this effect is immediate. In others, the body's response is more sluggish, and it takes a few sessions to start reaping benefits. And, while you will probably feel a difference right away on the short-term, the benefits accumulate over time on a deeper level. This is not just about treating the symptoms (as when taking painkillers, decongestants, etc), but about lasting health improvement.

Think about it this way: medical doctors may try several drugs for your problem before settling on the right one. Same thing with acupuncture point combination - there are several choices to try for the same issues. The good thing is, many points help for more than one issue! Also, keep in mind even the best medication on the market doesn't always have the same effect on everyone. It's crucial that you provide feedback to your acupuncturist, so that the treatment can be adjusted until the right combination is reached.

There is no doubt that acupuncture works. The question is - do you have a good doctor AND is the treatment adequate for YOU  ?
